Social and Political Interpretations of the Qur’an have always been subject to harms, and neglecting the interpretive rules concerning the immediate audience of the Qur’an, namely the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), has led to some of these harms. In response to this problem, this research addresses the question: Does neglecting the characteristic of the Prophet’s (PBUH) infallibility disrupt these interpretations? The research emphasizes the hypothesis that overlooking the contextual characteristic of the Prophet’s (PBUH) infallibility is the source of some of the harms in social and political interpretations. Correct social and political interpretation requires the standard use of the Prophet’s (PBUH) characteristics in understanding the divine meaning of the verses, and the Prophet’s (PBUH) infallibility is among the contextual factors whose neglect or misuse leads to incorrect interpretations. This research has been conducted using a descriptive-analytical method. In the descriptive section, existing social and political interpretations are described through case studies to gather data related to the harms of current interpretations and to clearly and fully describe the state of these interpretations. The content of the interpretations is also analyzed to determine a valid interpretive model for other social and political interpretations of the Qur’an. The present research, as a case study, describes one social and one political interpretation and, by comparing them with other interpretations, proves the role of neglecting the context of the infallibility of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the invalidity of these interpretations.
