Abstract
The analysis of unethical words used in the Holy Qur'an, such as "Humaz and Lumaz", and the practical comprehension of the verses containing them requires semantic knowledge, which firstly would provide a correct and precise meaning of the words and secondly would explicate the negative impacts of committing immoral acts which lead to Divine punishment. The present research has been conducted by the narrative-revelation research method, descriptive-analytical processing of the content and library data collection technique. Using some of Ahl al-Bayt’s (AS) salient methods in narratives, such as semantics, formation of hypothetical analogy and attention to juxtaposition relations, it was found that in the Qur'an, the word "Humaz", unlike the word "Lumaz", has not been used in its original meaning, and that both words are among polysemous words. Juxtaposition relations concern the implicit connection between having desire for wealth and considering the world as perpetual, and consequently entails the denial of the hereafter and moral vices and doctrinal deviations result in nothing but "woe" and ruination. Furthermore, an overview of the verses that lay the groundwork for desire for wealth in Qarun and Pharaoh’s vices and perversions reveals that the vices and perversions caused them to fall into the abyss of "woe" and ruination.
